🧩 Grammar Focus

Structures from this story worth practicing.

① 谁 and 哪 — asking about people and choices
疑问代词 "谁"、"哪"
谁 (who) / 哪 + measure word/noun + Noun (which)
asks about a person's identity — it simply takes the place of the person in the sentence. asks "which" and needs a measure word or noun before the final noun, e.g. 哪国人 ("which country's person" = what nationality).
你是国人?
Nǐ shì nǎ guó rén?
Which country are you from?
② 的 — showing possession
结构助词 "的"
Noun/Pronoun + 的 + Noun
links a noun or pronoun to the noun that follows to show possession — like English "'s." When the following noun is a family term or refers to someone close to the speaker, 的 can be dropped.
她是我汉语老师。
Tā shì wǒ de Hànyǔ lǎoshī.
She is my Chinese teacher.
③ 呢 — "what about...?"
疑问助词 "呢" (1)
A …。 B呢?
After saying something about A, add right after B to ask the same question about B — no need to repeat the whole sentence.
我是中国人。你
Wǒ shì Zhōngguó rén. Nǐ ne?
I'm Chinese. What about you?
